Bagan

10,000 Temples on the Irrawaddy Plain

Intro

Gallery

The Myanmar people still revere the beneficent kings of their past. For the villagers who live, work and worship in Bagan, the pagodas built through the plain, many a millennium ago, are living testimony, a sacred architecture, to what good rulership does for an unknown people from an unforeseen future. The people in and around Bagan acknowledge that their spiritual and religious beliefs are sustained now by the decisions of kings centuries ago. For myself, I felt close to the community here more than I have elsewhere in my travels. They were not merely friendly, they were personable. It is their nature.
